Vietnam Part 4: Ha Long is a better bay than the Michael kind.
Here, our boat docked at our first stop.
With the waters calm and the sun out, I convinced the LilBro to go on the kayak with me while the rest of the family got on the boats rowed by strong women.
That’s a’paddlin’.
With our friendly tour guide.
The bay is home to residents who spend their lives on the floating houses, with their children attending a likewise floating school.
These rocky formations are impressive in size.
And on to the next stop in Ha Long Bay.

The first picture reminds me of every Asian nature drawing that I’ve seen…
Your brother looks like Justin Long when he has facial hair (sans glasses).
must be hard to live here and have motion sickness…
I love that pic with the floating school. the karsts look very much like those in guilin, china.
Nice. I was there last year. Try rowing the boat with the women standing up. I was only able to move the boat in large left circles.
oh and did you see the monkeys?
wow, simply stunning!
Nice pictures.
I didn’t get the greatest weather for Halong Bay but it was definitely a sight to see. Those karsts offered some stunning visual for waking up on a boat.
I haven’t been there since I was 9-years-old. Awesome pictures!
@Femme003 - Haha, he was telling me a story once about how he was in a store and overheard two guys say that he looked like Justin Long. When he looked at them, they were like, “Yeah, he knows what’s up.” Hahaha. Now I always think of that when I see Justin Long in a movie.
@joooolie - I’m sure if you grow up on a boat, you’re used to the rocking. Never been to Guilin, China, but it sounds neat. Also, I had no idea they were called “karsts”. I’m like, “rock… things…” haha
@LostSock21 - Haha, the rowing was super impressive- I don’t know how they do it so effortlessly.
@LostSock21 - Monkeys? They must have been on break when I was there. Didn’t see any.
@Closure_Theory - It was!
@RisingFromGravity - Thanks- oh you took the overnight trip? That must have been amazing! We just did the afternoon one.
@K12N9 - Thanks! It was my first time and I’m already 31 years old. I guess I appreciate it more now that I’m older.
